MOSAIC (Mentoring to Overcome Struggles and Inspire Courage) provides a national model for linking college students with community afterschool programs for youth caught up in struggles against gang and family violence, drug and alcohol abuse, educational failure, and emotional trauma.
MOSAIC students from California State University, Northridge serve as mentors, tutors, positive role models, motivators, and instructors of creative and fun projects. Community youth participate in after-school projects involving art, music, dance, photography, broadcast journalism, yoga, fi eld trips, and a variety of recreational activities. Our hope is to give them a sense of family, something fun to do, and the ability to make positive choices that make them believe in their potential to succeed.
Please take our survey to let us know what you think of service-learning. All CSUN Students involved in Service-Leaning for the Fall 2006 Semester must complete this survey.
Work at a local after school program with youth ages 12-17 at-risk of failing in school, joining gangs, and giving up on a positive future. MOSAIC is a leadership opportunity that allows students to inspire youth while earning money and CSUN credit by taking a 3 unit class every semester.

“Before CSUN MOSAIC students began participating in the after-school programs, the at-risk youth did not receive enough one-on-one attention. Now there are approximately eight CSUN students at each of the four sights. This extra attention has helped increase attendance.” - Jennifer Roman
